Captain Lawrence Brewing Co. in Pleasantville is throwing its 5-year Anniversary Party on May 14. The celebration will take place at the brewery and will include roasted pigs, live music and of course, lots of craft beer. Details will be posted on the website. The third batch of the award-winning Rosso e Marrone has been bottled — look for a release date this Spring.

When I started writing about local beer back in 2003, I felt like I had stumbled upon something special that few others knew about. Seven years and two San Diego Beer Weeks later, this has changed dramatically. San Diego now finds itself with a pretty healthy local consumer base for our beer — something that is undeniably a Good Thing. And while this rising tide is certainly good for our established brewing icons, it’s even better for those home brewers with the means to go pro.
